Useful tips for cat litter trays

Cats are very neat animals, which value the fact that they can carry out their “business” in a clean place. Especially for house cats, which do not have the possibility to do their business outside, it is very important that the litter box is always clean.

It starts with what kind of litter box should be bought. For the owner a small litter box is of course advantageous, because it takes up less space. However, the cat needs enough space to feel comfortable and to be able to scratch, otherwise it can happen that she does her business accidentally over the edge.
The litter box should not have a lid or even a flap. The lid will keep the smell closed so that it smells more pleasant for the owner – but it stinks all the more for your cat under the lid!

To prevent the open litter box from stinking, we recommend the use of OptiPet DEO GRANULATE Litter Freshener. The deodorant granulate prevents the formation of unpleasant odours and doubles the life of the cat litter.

So-called clumping cat litter is particularly practical. They absorb the urine so that only a large clump has to be removed.

Of course, every cat has its preferences regarding the type and variety of its cat litter. If your cat has received cat litter from clay (or “mineral litter”) up to now, you should switch to cat litter from plant fibres (“eco-cat litter”), because this is better for the environment. The raw material for cat litter is obtained by open-cast mining, which is very harmful to nature. In contrast, the raw material for organic litter simply grows back. Moreover, cat litter made of natural fibres is lighter and clumps just as well!

As already mentioned, cats are very well groomed animals and react sensitively to smells. For this reason it is important that the lumps are removed from the litter tray several times a day. In addition, the litter box should be cleaned thoroughly every 2 weeks with the OptiPet CLEANING SPRAY Litter Box & Cage and the litter changed.

A protective mat is used to ensure that the cat litter, which sticks to the cat’s paws, is intercepted and not distributed throughout the home.
