My first puppy

The anticipation is huge, as after several visits the first own puppy can finally be taken home. Of course you don’t want to do anything wrong and everything should be perfectly prepared for the little rascal. What you have to pay attention to, is listed here:

Is the apartment puppy safe?

Like toddlers, puppies are incredibly curious and want to discover everything! And since they have no hands, they like to explore everything with their snout. In order not to hurt themselves there are following things to consider:

  • Secure all power cables.
  • Keep medicines, cleaning products and dangerous foodstuffs out of reach.
  • Remove poisonous plants and also
  • Plastic particles lying around, such as plastic bags, can pose a choking hazard for your dog!

Basic equipment for your puppy

Just like us humans, a dog needs a certain equipment to feel comfortable. This includes:

  • Dog basket and/or blanket
  • Food (especially for puppies)
  • Water and food bowl
  • Toy
  • A brush for coat care and later dog shampoo
  • collar or harness
  • leash
  • Car transport box

Getting accustomed on the first day

Remember, such a move in is a big stress factor for the puppy. Suddenly his family is no longer here and he is in a completely new environment with new smells, new noises and new people. The following tips will help you to get used to the new environment:

  • On the first day there should’t be too many people in the new home who have an effect on the puppy.
  • Give him time to explore the new environment in peace.
  • In general, the puppy should be left alone on the first day and not forced to play or be petted.
  • Although the puppy has to get used to the new environment first, the rules he has to follow in the future should be given from the beginning.

If you follow all the above points, nothing will stand in the way of your puppy moving in successfully.
